Nessco Group’s Derek Elliot Jones is taking part in a fantastic bicycle trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
To get an insight into Derek’s adventurous bicycle trip, first a little background:
It all started a few years ago when Derek’s father decided sponsored cycles were a good way to raise interest for charitable causes in India, organized in association with St Devenick’s Church in Bieldside, and they gradually grew from three days to week long trips. This year, the route is to be a trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
The plan had been floating around for a while, and when the opportunity to ride with the support of the company was suggested Derek certainly couldn’t miss out.
So far there are three confirmed riders, and Derek expects they will have other riders joining them for sections of the journey.
Firstly, Derek’s father, Jonathan will be riding for an organization called USPG: Anglicans in World Mission (www.uspg.org.uk). He is their man in Scotland, and is riding to support the missionaries they send all over the world.
Rider number two is a slightly distant relative, Chris. Who will kindly be persuaded to wear a sponsored tea shirt for the event.
And then there’s rider number three, Derek. He jumped at the chance to ride in aid of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a charity he is very supportive of and aware of.
The trip will take place from the 10th June – 25th June.
Derek also hopes to “sell” space on his jersey/bike for company logos should they wish some sort of recognition in return for their money which will all go towards a very worthwhile charity.
